Ticks and Fleas Take NO Holiday
Many animal lovers believe that it is safe to suspend the use of flea/tick heartworm prevention for their furry companions during the winter months. These guardians have bought the myth that as soon as there is a "hard frost," fleas/ticks and mosquitos become dormant and harmless.

This is not quite true.

While fleas/ticks and mosquitos DO become less active during the colder months, they are still very much alive, and very much able to bite and infect our canine and feline friends. If, on that winter hike in the woods, Spot gets into just the right log, or Fluffy happens to encounter the right squirrel or patch of brush, he/she can indeed be bitten by and/or bring home unwanted "guests" that can lead to sometimes serious illness in your beloved pet and even your family.

CRVH and the AVMA recommend that our animal friends be on flea/tick and heartworm prevention year-round. Be safe instead of sorry.
